Our Immigration Legal Assistants (LATAM) are embedded directly with growth-stage businesses and leadership teams who need technically strong, independent operators. You’ll have ongoing coaching, clear standards, and a dedicated Success Manager behind you so you can focus on doing excellent work and growing in the role.
This is not freelance or short-term work. It’s a dedicated, full-time role designed for meaningful impact, stability, and professional growth.
We are seeking a highly proactive, detail-oriented Immigration Legal Assistant to support attorneys across a demanding and fast-moving caseload. This role involves preparing complex asylum applications and court filings, managing case deadlines and documentation, coordinating with clients bilingually, and ensuring every submission meets EOIR and USCIS compliance standards.
If you excel at navigating immigration court procedures, have hands-on experience with Form I-589 and removal proceedings, and can operate independently in a high-stakes legal environment with minimal ramp-up time, this role is perfect for you.
Responsibilities
Prepare complete affirmative and defensive Form I-589 asylum applications, client declarations, and full supporting filing packets including exhibits, certified translations, country conditions documentation, and corroborating evidence.
Draft, prepare, and file Immigration Court pleadings and procedural motions including Motions to Continue, Change Venue, Substitute Counsel, Accept Late Filings, fee waiver requests, change of address forms, and other EOIR filings.
Prepare benefit applications including Employment Authorization, Cancellation of Removal, Adjustment of Status, Temporary Protected Status (TPS), family-based immigration benefits related to removal proceedings, and other applications as assigned.
Assemble complete hearing packets, exhibit binders, and submission packages for Immigration Court and USCIS, ensuring full compliance with EOIR Practice Manual and USCIS filing requirements.
Calendar and track all critical deadlines including hearing dates, biometrics appointments, filing deadlines, and attorney task items to ensure nothing falls through the cracks.
Maintain accurate case notes and client files within the firm's case management system, and communicate professionally with clients in both English and Spanish regarding document collection, case updates, and hearing preparation.
Coordinate certified translations, review and organize client-submitted evidence, and work closely with attorneys to ensure all filings are complete, accurate, and submitted on time.
Requirements
3+ years of experience as an immigration legal assistant or paralegal with direct exposure to asylum cases and immigration court filings (must-have)
Demonstrated hands-on experience preparing Form I-589 (affirmative and defensive) and Immigration Court pleadings and motions (must-have)
Solid knowledge of EOIR Practice Manual requirements and USCIS filing procedures
Professional bilingual fluency in English and Spanish, written and verbal (must-have)
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and no significant onboarding period
Experience with removal proceedings and relief applications (Cancellation of Removal, TPS, Adjustment of Status)
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple cases and competing deadlines simultaneously
Experience coordinating certified translations and managing evidentiary documentation
Familiarity with immigration case management software preferred
LATAM-based candidates with U.S. immigration law experience are strongly encouraged to apply
